Taiwan produces over 90% of the world's most advanced semiconductor chips through its foundry sector, led by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) — a single company whose technology is embedded in virtually every smartphone, AI server, and high-performance computing system on earth. TSMC's manufacturing processes are so technically complex that no competitor has been able to replicate them at scale, despite billions spent by Intel, Samsung, and government-backed initiatives in the US, Europe, and Japan. Taiwan's equity market is exceptionally concentrated: the technology sector accounts for over 60% of the FTSE Taiwan index, and TSMC alone represents roughly 30% — making it one of the most single-stock-dependent national indices of any major market.
